Smoother BankID experience with faster login

Going forward your BankID experience will be even faster and better as more and more places allow you to log in with facial recognition, fingerprint og PIN code.

With the launch of biometric login in the BankID app, many will now get a better user experience. This means that you can use face recognition, fingerprints or a PIN code at an increasing number of user sites, instead of entering a password. While logging in with BankID on mobile takes 30 seconds, using the BankID app with face, finger or PIN will take less than 10 seconds.

The BankID app is available through 95 banks in Norway. SpareBank 1 and Nordea have their own apps:

Will become more widespread than password

Faster BankID will be more and more widespread over time. The ambition is that you should be able to log in with your face, finger or PIN code in the vast majority of cases in the future. In other words, this will largely replace the current use of passwords. The exception is situations that require extra security, for example in the case of larger transactions and e-signatures, such as when you have to sign documents when buying a house.

The roll-out of faster BankID at the various user sites will take place gradually, and you will find that you have to use a password in many cases for quite some time to come. It is not a requirement to use the new service, but it is recommended because it provides an even better and faster user experience.

Some BankID users have already prepared their app for login with face, finger or PIN. These will get automatic access to the service when it is now launched. If you have not prepared the app for faster BankID yet, you can activate the service by following the steps below.

How to activate facial recognition, fingerprint or PIN in the BankID app:

For new app users:

  1. As a new user of the BankID app, you will be able to activate BankID with facial recognition, fingerprint or PIN when you activate the app.
  2. Follow the instructions in the app to activate the new service.
  3. If you cannot activate BankID with facial recognition, fingerprint or PIN when you activate the app, you should check whether this is activated on the phone or tablet you are using. You can see this in the settings on your phone/tablet.

For those who are already using the app:

  1. Open the BankID app and press "My BankID" in the menu at the bottom of the page.
  2. Follow the instructions in the app to activate BankID with facial recognition, fingerprint or PIN.

Do not use on shared devices!

Remember that you must not activate BankID with facial recognition or fingerprint if you share the device with others. If several people in the household have entered finger or facial recognition on the device, you must remove their biometric access before activating this in the BankID app. Also create a new PIN code for the device if you know that several people know the code.

Frequently asked questions about faster BankID:
