How does xID actually work?

Once you have created your xID and visit a website that uses the service, you can choose to use xID for a simple and secure login, instead of your username and password. If you choose this solution, you use your xID to tell the website that you’re you. This will give you direct access to the logged in page. You choose where you wish to use your xID, and you must consent to the use of xID on each individual website. This gives you complete control of where you use your xID.

With some banks, you can use xID instead of filling in your personal ID number when logging in with BankID. This will make logging in with BankID slightly quicker, but this is entirely your choosing.
